Passion is the evening member of the mood blends: spiced, sweet and slightly floral, with sandalwood underneath. It smells less like a room spray and more like a perfume, which is how many people use it.
In short: Passion is dōTERRA’s Inspiring blend of cardamom, cinnamon bark, ginger, clove, sandalwood, jasmine, vanilla and damiana in fractionated coconut oil. A 5 ml bottle costs $43 wholesale in the US and £42.76 in the UK. People use it in the evening diffuser and as a drop on the wrists or neck; it contains cinnamon and clove, so keep it away from eyes and faces.
What it is and where it comes from
Passion is a blend supplied in fractionated coconut oil, so it is ready to dab without an extra carrier. The ingredients are:
- Cardamom
- Cinnamon Bark
- Ginger
- Clove
- Sandalwood
- Jasmine
- Vanilla
- Damiana
The warm spices (cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, clove) give the top and heart; sandalwood and vanilla make the base; jasmine and damiana add the floral, slightly herbal sweetness. It sits in the same family as Motivate and Cheer, but it is the richest and most perfume-like.
dōTERRA tests every batch of its oils, and the results for your lot number are published at sourcetoyou.com.
Aroma
Warm and spicy at first, sweet and floral in the middle, then a long, creamy base of sandalwood and vanilla. It is a close, intimate scent rather than a fresh one, and it stays on the skin for hours.
How people use it
In the diffuser. Use two or three drops in the evening:
| Blend | Drops | When |
|---|---|---|
| Passion on its own | 2–3 | Evening, living room or bedroom |
| Passion + Sandalwood | 2 + 2 | Deeper woody evening scent |
| Passion + Ylang Ylang | 2 + 2 | Floral, romantic dinner at home |
| Passion + Wild Orange | 2 + 3 | Lighter, sweeter version |
As a personal scent. One drop on the wrists or the back of the neck works like a roll-on perfume. Because the blend is already in fractionated coconut oil, you do not need to dilute it further, but still patch-test first and use one drop at a time.
Around the house. A drop on a cotton pad in a drawer or a scarf gives a warm background scent. Avoid light fabrics, which can take a light oil stain.
Safety
Passion is a rich, spicy blend, so:
- Patch-test on the inner arm and wait 24 hours before using it on the wrists or neck.
- It contains cinnamon bark and clove: avoid eyes, the face and mucous membranes.
- Do not use it on children, and diffuse only lightly around small children.
- In pregnancy, while breastfeeding or with medical conditions, ask a doctor first.
- Pets, especially cats and birds, are sensitive to essential oils; ventilate and give animals a way out.
- Keep the bottle out of reach of children. It is not for food.
Is it worth the price?
A 5 ml bottle holds about 85 drops, so at $43 a drop costs roughly 51 cents (about 50 pence at £42.76). A diffuser session of three drops comes to around $1.52. That makes Passion one of the pricier blends in the 5 ml range, partly because sandalwood and jasmine are expensive ingredients.
Used as a personal scent, one drop lasts a long time on the skin, so the cost per wear is low. If you only want a spicy room scent, Cheer is the cheaper route. dōTERRA tests every batch, and the lot number results are at sourcetoyou.com.
What to pair it with
Passion is not in a starter kit. Its sister blends are Motivate, brighter and mintier, and Cheer, warmer and more citrusy. For a deeper floral evening mood, add Ylang Ylang.
If you are just starting out, the first five oils for your home is a good base before adding blends.
Where to buy it
Buy directly from dōTERRA under your market’s terms: you pay the price in the table above, the parcel ships from the regional warehouse under your country’s rules, and the label shows the formula sold where you live. If your country is not an official dōTERRA market, you order through Global Access: the parcel ships from the US via a forwarding intermediary, with extra shipping and customs costs. Marketplace bottles at half price are a gamble; here is how to spot a fake. Pick your country on the home page to open the official form with the wholesale price, or ask us if anything is unclear.
