Cheer is the scent of a warm kitchen in November: orange peel, ginger and baking spices with a soft vanilla finish. It is the blend many people start using when the evenings get dark and keep going until the new year.

In short: Cheer is dōTERRA’s Uplifting blend of wild orange, clove, star anise, lemon myrtle, nutmeg, vanilla bean absolute, ginger, cinnamon bark and zdravetz. A 5 ml bottle costs $26 wholesale in the US and £27.50 in the UK. People use it in the autumn and winter diffuser; because it contains cinnamon and clove, it must be diluted well for skin.

What it is and where it comes from

Cheer is a blend, so there is no single botanical source. The ingredients are:

  • Wild Orange
  • Clove
  • Star Anise
  • Lemon Myrtle
  • Nutmeg
  • Vanilla Bean Absolute
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon Bark
  • Zdravetz

Citrus-spice blends like this are an old idea: the sweet peel of orange carries the hot spices and keeps the room from smelling heavy. Cheer sits in the same mood family as Motivate and Passion, but it is the warmest and most seasonal of the three.

dōTERRA tests every batch of its oils, and the results for your lot number are published at sourcetoyou.com.

Aroma

Sweet orange and ginger open the scent, then clove, cinnamon and nutmeg give it the gingerbread warmth, with star anise and lemon myrtle adding a fresh, slightly sweet edge. Vanilla smooths everything. It is a cosy, festive scent rather than a clean one.

How people use it

In the diffuser. Two or three drops are plenty; the spices are strong:

Blend Drops When
Cheer on its own 2–3 Autumn evening, living room
Cheer + Wild Orange 2 + 3 Cold mornings, kitchen
Cheer + Siberian Fir 2 + 2 Holiday season, tree scent
Cheer + Vanilla-type blends such as Citrus Bliss 2 + 2 Family room, light and sweet

Seasonal scent. A drop on a cotton pad tucked in a wreath, on a wooden ornament or on a pine cone gives a gentle festive scent for a few days. Keep it away from varnished and painted surfaces.

On skin. Because it contains cinnamon bark and clove, dilute well: one drop per 10 ml of carrier oil, then dab on the wrists or chest. Do not use it on the face.

Safety

Cheer contains hot spices and citrus, so be careful:

  • Dilute for skin: one drop per 10 ml of carrier oil, never neat.
  • Patch-test on the inner arm and wait 24 hours.
  • It contains citrus oils; avoid sun and UV on treated skin for 12 hours.
  • Keep it away from eyes, the face and mucous membranes.
  • Diffuse briefly in a ventilated room, especially around small children, and do not apply it to them.
  • In pregnancy, while breastfeeding or with medical conditions, ask a doctor first.
  • Pets, especially cats and birds, are sensitive to essential oils; give animals a way out.
  • Keep the bottle out of reach of children. It is not for food.

Is it worth the price?

A 5 ml bottle holds about 85 drops, so at $26 a drop costs roughly 31 cents (about 32 pence at £27.50). A diffuser session of three drops comes to around 92 cents. That is a premium over single oils such as Wild Orange, but a blend of nine ingredients in one bottle is hard to assemble from single oils, and you use it for a season.

If you already own Wild Orange, Clove and Cinnamon Bark, you can mix a rough version at home. If you want the balanced formula ready to go, Cheer is the easier route. dōTERRA tests every batch, and the lot number results are at sourcetoyou.com.

What to pair it with

Cheer is not in a starter kit. Its closest neighbours are Motivate for a brighter, minty day scent, and Citrus Bliss for a sweeter, lighter citrus. A single Wild Orange stretches the blend and keeps the cost per session low.

If you are just starting out, the first five oils for your home is a good base before adding seasonal blends.

Where to buy it

Buy directly from dōTERRA under your market’s terms: you pay the price in the table above, the parcel ships from the regional warehouse under your country’s rules, and the label shows the formula sold where you live. If your country is not an official dōTERRA market, you order through Global Access: the parcel ships from the US via a forwarding intermediary, with extra shipping and customs costs. Marketplace bottles at half price are a gamble; here is how to spot a fake. Pick your country on the home page to open the official form with the wholesale price, or ask us if anything is unclear.
