Wild Orange is the friendliest oil in the range. It is cheap, it smells like peeling an orange, it blends with almost everything and it puts people in a good mood. If someone in the house says they do not like essential oils, this is the one to try first.

In short: Citrus sinensis, cold-pressed from the peel of sweet oranges, with a sweet, cheerful, juicy aroma. At $13 wholesale in the US and £14.26 in the UK it is the least expensive dōTERRA oil, works in the diffuser with almost any other oil, in the kitchen and as a wood polish, and is one of the easiest oils to use around a family.

What it is and where it comes from

Like Lemon, Wild Orange is not distilled but pressed. The peel of sweet oranges is mechanically squeezed, the oil separated from the juice and filtered. Because oranges are grown in huge quantities for juice, the peel is plentiful, which is why orange oil is one of the most affordable essential oils in the world.

The oil is over 90% limonene. That makes it an excellent natural degreaser and solvent, and gives it the bright, uplifting character people associate with oranges.

Aroma

Sweet, juicy and warm, exactly like a freshly peeled orange. It is softer and sweeter than Lemon, less sharp, and not as floral as Bergamot. On its own it fades fairly quickly; in blends it rounds off sharper oils and makes them more approachable.

How people use it

In the diffuser. Wild Orange is the universal mixer.

Blend Drops When
Wild Orange + Peppermint 3 + 2 Afternoon energy, homework
Wild Orange + Frankincense 3 + 2 Calm evening
Wild Orange + On Guard 3 + 2 Winter, festive season
Wild Orange + Lavender 3 + 3 Children’s playroom
Wild Orange + Balance 3 + 2 Stressful morning

In the kitchen. A few drops on a cloth cut through grease on hobs, extractor hoods and tiles. Added to a vinegar spray, orange covers the vinegar smell nicely. Sticky jars and labels respond well too.

On wood. A classic home-made furniture polish: 60 ml olive oil, 2 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar and 10–15 drops of Wild Orange. Wipe on with a soft cloth and buff off. Test on an inconspicuous spot first, especially on antiques or waxed finishes.

On skin. Diluted (one to two drops per 10 ml), orange adds a cheerful note to a body oil, a sugar scrub or a hand cream. Apply it in the evening or to skin that will stay covered if you are going out in strong sun.

In the US. Wild Orange is also labelled as a supplement in the US, and many people add a drop to sparkling water or baking. Outside the US, follow your local label.

Safety

  • Considered low-phototoxic, but still avoid strong sun on large areas of freshly treated skin.
  • Dilute for skin use, especially for children: one drop per 10 ml of carrier.
  • Citrus oils can damage some plastics and painted surfaces; use glass bottles and test before cleaning.
  • Oxidises faster than most oils: keep the cap tight and use within about a year of opening. Oxidised orange oil is more likely to irritate skin.
  • Keep away from eyes.

Is it worth the price?

At $13 for about 250 drops, a drop costs roughly 5 cents, and a diffuser session around 15 cents. It is the cheapest way to make a room smell good, and cheap enough to use generously for cleaning. Because orange oil is so cheap to start with, it is less commonly faked than expensive oils, but cheaper oils are sometimes made from lower-grade peel or extended with synthetic limonene. dōTERRA’s lot results are at sourcetoyou.com.

What to pair it with

Wild Orange is not in Home Essentials or Family Essentials in most markets (in Kazakhstan it is part of Family Essentials), so it is a natural first add-on to a kit or to a small first order. It complements Peppermint for daytime, Frankincense for evenings and On Guard in winter. If you are only buying a few singles, see the first five oils for your home.

Questions and answers

How much does dōTERRA Wild Orange cost?

In the US a 15 ml bottle is $13.00 wholesale and $17.33 retail; in the UK £14.26 / £19.01. It is the least expensive oil in the dōTERRA range; the table above lists ten countries from the official October 2026 price lists.

Is Wild Orange photosensitive like Lemon?

Sweet orange is considered low-phototoxic compared with Lemon or Bergamot. Even so, if you have applied a fair amount to exposed skin, it is sensible to avoid strong sun for a few hours.

Can I diffuse Wild Orange in a child's room?

Yes, diffusing a few drops in a ventilated room is one of the most popular family uses. For topical use on children, dilute to about one drop per 10 ml of carrier oil.

What is the difference between Wild Orange and other orange oils?

Both are cold-pressed from the peel of sweet oranges, Citrus sinensis. The name is dōTERRA's; what matters is that the oil is pure cold-pressed peel oil and not mixed with synthetic limonene, which you can check by lot number at sourcetoyou.com.

Is Wild Orange in a starter kit?

Not in Home Essentials or Family Essentials in most countries, so you buy it separately; it is the cheapest bottle to add to any order. In Kazakhstan the Family Essentials kit includes Wild Orange 15 ml.
