Breathe is the blend people buy for winter nights. Its cool, minty-eucalyptus smell is the essential oil equivalent of opening a window on a frosty morning, and many families diffuse it in the bedroom every evening from autumn to spring.

In short: a respiratory blend sold as Breathe in the US, dōTERRA Air in Europe and the UK and Easy Air in the UAE, built on laurel leaf, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, lemon, cardamom, ravintsara and other oils. It costs $29 wholesale in the US and £30.76 in the UK, is used for night-time diffusing, diluted chest rubs and travel, and should be kept away from the faces of small children.

What it is and where it comes from

The blend combines several oils known for their fresh, clearing aroma. A typical formula includes laurel leaf, eucalyptus, peppermint, melaleuca (tea tree), lemon, ravintsara and cardamom; some versions also contain ravensara or other leaf oils. Because ingredient rules differ by country, the exact recipe is not identical in every market, and dōTERRA has adjusted it over the years. The name also changes: Breathe in North America, dōTERRA Air in the UK and continental Europe, Easy Air in the Middle East.

The common thread is 1,8-cineole (from eucalyptus, laurel and ravintsara) and menthol (from peppermint). Together they give the blend its characteristic cool, open feeling.

Aroma

Fresh, minty and eucalyptus-forward, with a subtle sweet-spicy note from cardamom and a hint of lemon. It is cleaner and softer than straight eucalyptus or peppermint, which is why many people who find those single oils too sharp are happy with Breathe.

How people use it

In the diffuser. The bedroom at night is the classic setting.

Blend Drops When
Breathe alone 3–4 Bedroom, an hour before sleep
Breathe + Lavender 3 + 2 Night-time, winter
Breathe + Lemon 3 + 2 Daytime, closed windows
Breathe + Eucalyptus 2 + 2 Steamy bathroom or after a cold walk

On skin. For adults, three to five drops in a tablespoon of carrier oil make a simple chest and upper-back rub before bed. Some people also put a diluted drop on the back of the neck or under the collarbones.

For travel. A drop on a tissue or on the outside of a face mask (not on the side touching your skin), or a sniff from the bottle, is a habit many frequent flyers have on long journeys and in stuffy hotel rooms.

In the shower. Two or three drops on the shower floor, away from the water stream, create a eucalyptus-style steam room.

Safety

  • Do not apply to the face, chest or near the nose of small children. Menthol and 1,8-cineole near the airways of young children are a known risk.
  • Dilute for adults: around 2–3% (three to five drops per tablespoon of carrier) for chest rubs.
  • Keep away from eyes; the vapour can make eyes water at close range.
  • Diffuse in a ventilated room and give the room a break after an hour or two.
  • People with asthma should test it carefully and stop if it causes discomfort; some find strong menthol or eucalyptus aromas triggering.
  • Use in pregnancy, while breastfeeding or with medical conditions only after asking a doctor.
  • Read your own label: composition and permitted uses differ between the US, UK/EU and UAE versions.

Is it worth the price?

At $29 for roughly 250 drops, Breathe costs about 12 cents a drop, or around 40–50 cents a night in the diffuser. Building a similar blend yourself would mean buying five to seven single oils, several of them (cardamom, laurel, ravintsara) that you might not use otherwise. The blend is assembled from individually tested oils, and lot results are posted at sourcetoyou.com.

Questions and answers

How much does dōTERRA Breathe / Air cost?

In the US a 15 ml bottle of Breathe is $29.00 wholesale and $38.67 retail; in the UK dōTERRA Air is £30.76 / £41.00. The table above lists ten countries from the official October 2026 price lists.

Are Breathe, dōTERRA Air and Easy Air the same oil?

They are the same respiratory blend concept under different names: Breathe in the US, dōTERRA Air in Europe and the UK, Easy Air in the UAE. The exact composition can differ slightly between markets to meet local rules, so always read the ingredient list on your own bottle.

Can I use Breathe on my child?

Do not apply it to the face, chest or near the nose of small children, because menthol and 1,8-cineole can affect their breathing. For children, diffusing a small amount in a large, ventilated room is the more cautious choice, or ask your doctor first.

How do I make a chest rub with Breathe?

Mix three to five drops into a tablespoon of carrier oil or unscented balm and massage into the chest and upper back. That is a dilution of roughly 2–3%, suitable for adults.

Is Breathe / Air included in a starter kit?

Yes. It is one of the ten oils in Home Essentials (15 ml bottles plus a diffuser) and Family Essentials (5 ml bottles).
