AromaTouch is dōTERRA’s massage blend, and it does exactly what the name suggests: it turns a plain carrier oil into a fresh, herbal massage oil. It is the oil many people reach for after sport, a long drive or a day at the desk, when shoulders and neck need some attention.

In short: AromaTouch is a blend of oils such as cypress, peppermint, marjoram, basil, grapefruit and lavender. A 15 ml bottle costs $35 wholesale in the US and £34.75 in the UK. It is used diluted for back, neck and leg massage, and it is the namesake oil of dōTERRA’s AromaTouch Technique. Not for small children.

What it is and where it comes from

AromaTouch is a blend, so each component has its own origin. The idea behind the recipe is a combination of cooling (peppermint), warming and herbal (marjoram, basil), fresh woody (cypress) and soft, rounding notes (lavender, grapefruit). The exact list may differ slightly between countries, so read the label of your bottle.

The blend is closely tied to the AromaTouch Technique, a structured protocol in which several oils are applied in sequence to the back and feet with light, even strokes. Trained practitioners and many dōTERRA members use it, but you do not need the technique to enjoy the oil in a simple home massage.

Aroma

Fresh, minty and herbal, with a green, slightly woody body and a light citrus-floral finish. The peppermint gives a cool first impression; marjoram and basil make it smell like a professional massage room rather than a toothpaste.

How people use it

Massage. This is the main use. Mix three to five drops into 10 ml of fractionated coconut oil or another carrier, warm it between your palms and massage the back, shoulders, neck or calves with slow strokes. Many people find it pleasant after exercise, gardening or a long day on their feet.

AromaTouch Technique. If you want to learn the full protocol, dōTERRA offers training and certification. At home, a simplified version is a slow back massage with AromaTouch diluted in carrier oil, followed by a few minutes of rest.

In the diffuser. It is not mainly a diffuser oil, but it works in a fresh blend:

Blend Drops When
AromaTouch on its own 4 After a workout
AromaTouch + Wild Orange 3 + 2 Afternoon at home
AromaTouch + Lavender 2 + 3 Evening, before a bath

In the bath. Mix four to five drops into a spoon of carrier oil or bath salt first, then add to the water; never drop it straight into the bath.

Safety

AromaTouch is designed for skin, but it still needs dilution:

  • Dilute: three to five drops per 10 ml of carrier oil for adults; less for sensitive skin.
  • Not for small children, because of peppermint; keep it away from their faces. For older children, dilute at least twice as much and ask your doctor if unsure.
  • Avoid eyes, mucous membranes and broken skin. Wash hands after a massage.
  • It contains grapefruit, a cold-pressed citrus oil; to be safe, avoid strong sun on large treated areas for a few hours.
  • Patch-test first: one diluted drop on the inner arm, wait 24 hours.
  • In pregnancy, while breastfeeding or with medical conditions, ask your doctor first.

Is it worth the price?

A 15 ml bottle holds about 250 drops, so at $35 one drop costs about 14 cents. A full back massage with four drops comes to roughly 55 cents of essential oil, plus the carrier oil. Buying the six component oils separately would cost far more, so if you massage regularly, the blend is good value.

Test results for each batch of the component oils are published at sourcetoyou.com.

What to pair it with

AromaTouch is not in a starter kit. The essential partner is a good carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil. If you want a warmer massage feel, add a drop of Black Pepper or Ginger. Deep Blue is the other popular massage choice; many people keep both. For a relaxing evening, combine it with Lavender or Marjoram, and for after-sport freshness, Peppermint or Cypress.

If you are still building your first collection, see which dōTERRA kit to choose; AromaTouch is a good add-on once you have the basics.

Where to buy it

Buy directly from dōTERRA under your market’s terms: you pay the price in the table above, the parcel ships from the regional warehouse under your country’s rules, and you know exactly what is in the bottle. If your country is not an official dōTERRA market, you order through Global Access: the parcel ships from the US via a forwarding intermediary, with extra shipping and customs costs. Marketplace bottles at half price are a gamble; here is how to spot a fake. Pick your country on the home page to open the official form with the wholesale price, or ask us if anything is unclear.
