You opened the account, you have a member number, and now the cart is empty and the shop has hundreds of products. The first order feels more important than it is, but a few details are worth knowing before you click “pay”: where to log in, what the numbers in the cart mean, when the enrollment fee disappears, and which small mistakes cost people money. This is a plain walk through all of it.

In short: log in first so you see wholesale prices, put the oils you already use in the cart, check the PV and the shipping cost, and pay with a card or whatever the checkout offers. In Europe, a fee-only enrollment gets its fee waived on a first order of 150 PV or more. Joining the Loyalty Rewards Program is optional.

Where to place the order

Your market’s shop is at doterra.com. Log in with the details you set up during enrollment, and the shop shows member prices. In some markets, mostly in Eurasia, the older ordering form at office.doterra.com is still in use. If you cannot get in, our article on login and account access covers the usual problems.

The single most important step is to be logged in and in the right market before you add anything. If you browse the shop as a visitor, you see retail prices, and orders placed that way cost about a third more than the wholesale price.

What the cart shows

dōTERRA Lavender bottle The cart is easier to read than it first looks. You will see:

What you see What it means
Two prices Retail and wholesale; as a member you pay the wholesale one
PV Product Volume, the points a product carries
Shipping options Choices and costs, shown before you pay
Total What your card will be charged

PV is the number to understand. For oils, one PV is roughly one dollar or one euro of the wholesale price. Accessories carry fewer points, and some items carry none. You do not need to track it all the time. It matters in two places: waiving the enrollment fee in Europe, and, if you choose it, the Loyalty Rewards Program. Shipping options and their cost appear before payment, so nothing is charged by surprise. Our shipping article explains the timing in more detail.

The enrollment fee and the 150 PV rule

In Europe, if you enrolled with the fee only, that fee is waived when your first order is 150 PV or more. If your first order is below 150 PV, the fee is charged. It is worth checking the PV total in the cart before you pay, because being 10 PV short can cost you the fee.

If you bought a kit, none of this applies. A kit already includes the enrollment fee, so you do not pay it again. Our kit comparison and the calculator will help you decide between a kit and a fee-only start. The calculator shows the three totals for your market, with a diffuser chip if one is offered there.

The Loyalty Rewards Program

The Loyalty Rewards Program, or LRP, is optional. If you set it up, a share of your PV comes back as points that you can spend on products later. The share starts at 10 percent and grows over time. You can edit it or cancel it from your account.

For a first order, the simplest advice is not to decide in a hurry. Place one ordinary order, see how much you really use, and join later if you find yourself ordering every month. If you do tick the box, make sure you chose it yourself and understand that it repeats until you cancel.

Payment

Cards are the standard option, usually with 3-D Secure, where your bank asks you to confirm in its app or by code. In some markets PayPal or bank transfer are also offered; use whatever the checkout shows. Foreign cards are sometimes blocked on the first attempt. If that happens, confirm the payment in your banking app or try another card before assuming something is wrong with the order.

After you pay

You receive a confirmation e-mail, and you can follow the parcel in the Orders section of your account. The order ships from the regional warehouse: Europe for the EU, the UK, Poland, Ukraine and Moldova, and the US for North America and for Global Access. Global Access means your country has no official enrollment, so the parcel goes through a forwarding intermediary, with extra shipping and customs costs. The shipping article covers delivery times and what to do if a parcel is late.

What to put in the first order

If you did not buy a kit, keep the first order small and personal. A sensible shortlist:

Our first five oils article is a good short list if you are still choosing.

A sample first order

Say you enrolled fee-only in Germany and you already use Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint. A tidy first order is those three oils in 15 ml bottles, plus a diffuser if you have none. Before paying, look at the PV total: if it is under 150 PV, the fee is added, and you can decide whether one more bottle you will use anyway is worth it to reach the threshold. Do not add products only to cross a number. The fee is small, and a bottle that sits unopened is a worse trade.

If instead you chose a kit at enrollment, your account is already open and the kit is effectively your first order. Anything you add later is a second order and follows the same rules as above, minus the fee question.

Reading the cart before you pay

Take thirty seconds for a final check. Is the market the one you meant? Do the prices shown match the wholesale price, not the retail one? Is the shipping option the one you want, and is the cost clear? Is the payment method the one you expect? Is any recurring order ticked that you did not mean to tick? If all five answers are fine, pay. Afterwards, keep the confirmation e-mail: it holds the order number you will need if anything goes wrong.

If something goes wrong

A missing confirmation e-mail is usually in spam, and the order will still appear in your account under Orders. A declined card is usually the bank, not dōTERRA. Check the delivery address at checkout, before you pay. For anything else, the support of your market’s dōTERRA shop is the first stop, and we are happy to help you find the right form or page.

Common first-order mistakes

  1. Ordering at retail because you were not logged in. Check that the member prices are showing.
  2. The wrong market selected. The shop, prices and warehouse depend on it.
  3. Missing 150 PV by a few points when you were aiming to waive the fee in Europe.
  4. Buying a kit and paying the fee separately. The kit already includes it.
  5. Forgetting LRP is optional, or joining it without meaning to.

None of these is dramatic, but each one is avoidable with a minute of checking before you pay.

Questions worth asking yourself first

Before the first order, three questions save most of the regret. What do I already use at home that an oil could replace or improve, such as a room spray or a scented candle? Which two or three scents would I be happy to smell every week? And do I own a diffuser? The answers give you a shopping list that is personal rather than a guess. You can always add more later at the same wholesale price, and there is no deadline to buy everything at once. Many members place a small first order, live with it for a month, and then order again with a much clearer idea of what they need.

Next steps

If you have not enrolled yet, pick your country on the home page, and the official form opens with our Enroller ID already filled in. Questions and answers

Where do I place my first dōTERRA order?

Log in at doterra.com for your market. In some markets, mainly in Eurasia, the older office.doterra.com form is still used. Once you are logged in, the shop shows member prices. Our login article explains how to get into your account.

What is PV?

PV stands for Product Volume, the points each product carries. For oils it is roughly 1 PV for each dollar or euro of the wholesale price. Accessories carry fewer points and some items carry none. PV is shown next to every product in your cart.

How do I get the enrollment fee waived in Europe?

If you enroll with the fee only, the fee is waived when your first order is 150 PV or more. If you buy a kit, the fee is already included, so you do not need to do anything.

Do I have to join the Loyalty Rewards Program?

No, it is optional. If you do join, points come back as a share of your PV, starting at 10 percent and growing over time, and you can spend them on products later. You can edit or cancel it from your account.

My card was declined. What should I do?

Foreign cards are sometimes blocked by the bank. Open your banking app and confirm the payment, or try another card. Some markets also offer PayPal or bank transfer; the options are shown at checkout.

Where does my order ship from?

From the regional warehouse. For the EU, the UK, Poland, Ukraine and Moldova that is the European warehouse. For North America and Global Access it is the US. See our shipping article for timing and costs.

What should I order first?

The three or four oils you already know you will use, plus a diffuser if you do not own one. Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Wild Orange, Tea Tree, Frankincense and On Guard are the usual starting points.
